We tried Amalfi's 1/17/15 - Mt. Pleasant. Everyone was pleasant, the service solid, but the food was completely disappointing. We began with the calamari, no seasoning or flavor. Both the chicken and broccoli alfredo and the chicken picatta were completely absent of flavor. The unseasoned chicken was drowned in a bland sauce. The only highlight was a she crab soup that my daughter really enjoyed. We try to support locally owned restaurants but won't return based on the poor food quality.

Fantastic spaghetti, alfredo, soups, and fast service. This is a great little casual Italian restaurant. Their pizza and takeout is awesome, too.

This is a nice little neighborhood pizzeria and a nice step up from delivery. The menu is a little limited, and I would recommend anything that uses their bread (pizza, calzones, or sandwiches.) Trust me, when you try their rolls, you'll totally understand why! The rest of the menu (the pastas and classic entrees) is nothing special and I wouldn't bother with it.

Great food, decent prices and the staff are very friendly. If you're looking for a casual Italian place in this area this is a good one. Great place for takeout also.

My new favorite Italian Restaurant and Pizzeria! Fresh and Delicious! Crab bisque, caprese salad, lasagna, and seafood combo were all Amazing!

They have the most amazingly delicious Crab Bisque. This soup is the only reason I ever come here, it is that awesome. Other than that, I have always been pretty underwhelmed by their other offerings.

Good stuff, better than the previous time we were there. Crab soup was delicious! Two of us had the lasagna and were very pleased. Friendly, fast staff. I hope this place sticks around!

Previously on John's island, Amalfi's opened up in Belle Hall in Mount Pleasant around the beginning of 2011. The food is not fancy, but very, very tasty (especially love the red sauce), with a fantastic house dressing, great lasagna, and prices cheap enough to make it a regular favorite and an outstanding value.

ok, not super fab. they don't handle being busy very well. pizza needs to be cooked a bit longer, was doughy. salmon dish was lacking flavor and color. will try once more

It's a pretty good neighborhood place. The server, Brandon, was excellent. First set of rolls was a little singed on the bottom, second set was perfect. My kids actually eat here, so that says something. Most dishes are somewhat Americanized versions of their Italian counterparts. Price points between 9 and 16 bucks make this place a steal. Lunch is an even better deal.

Wow.... real Italian food. Lauren our waitress was the best... personable and knowledgeable about the menu and history of the family that ran this establishment. Ambiance upstairs is very nice, quiet and romantic. Portions are generous, so you get your money worth. Food is a 5-star. Got to say Lauren's recommendations of placing your bets on the home made Hot / Spicy Italian sausage w/ spaghetti was spot on. My wife opted for the clams & linguine. Both were excellent and we went home with a clam shell. Dessert was a take on Tiramisu ladyfingers yet dipped in Lemoncello. Snap. Got to hit the treadmill for another 30-min to burn that off. SaleebScore: Food: 9/10; Service 10/10; Ambiance 8/10; Value 9/10

We ate dinner here before heading a few doors down to The Wine Bar. The service was great and the food was good. I cannot remember our servers name but she was really good. Their Alfredo sauce is the best I have tasted in a long time! Nice size potions. Worth a try if you are in the area.

Nothing wrong with Amalfi's. I've been a handful of times and usually around lunch. They offer some special for lunch which make the whole trip worth while, but without those, I would likely pass. The prices are just a bit high for what you get. As I mentioned, the food is good, but nothing amazing either. So what you get is decent Italian food in the long point area for a good price if you go at lunch. Sounds like a win.

Staff was very attentive and the food was some of the best Italian in town! We will be back soon!

Delicious italian food and a great atmosphere. The pizza here is fantastic as is the service. Brandon is our regular server and he is definitely the best waiter I have ever had at any restaurant! Very highly recommeded :)

The great service everyone is mentioning is Maestro Brandon. Tip him well or I will cut you -_- Other Yelpers are giving the crab bisque well deserved praise, but you don't want to miss out on the chicken fiorentina! My favorite dish is the spaghetti aglio e olio. It is a manly, peppery, garlicky, anchovyey pasta creation - not for whimps.

This review is for the new Resturant on Maybank highway, although, I've been to the one on long point also. They are both to die for. If you know Italian food, or like me, born in Italy, you have to visit Amalfi's. Food is fabulous, staff is polite and quick. The owner comes out to all tables to see if all is ok. Had the chicken Marsala, wow. I have also had their fish stew, wow and wow. The bread is fresh, prices are in the " I'm ok with it range". Sauce is like my mothers. What more can I say? You heard it from an Italian. Go and 'EAT'. Frank G

This is a good Italian restaurant in mount pleasant. It is a good choice if you do not want to drive all over town to get decent Italian food. The restaurant is tucked away in the bell hall shopping center. Inside it is very bright. I do not think the decor is true to Italy. The bread is a dense triangle and the oil for dipping is just plain. I ordered the little neck clams and shrimp. I was a bit disappointed. The shrimp was over cooked causing it to become rubbery. I had about 5 LITTLE clams. The sauce wasn't anything to write home about. The presentation was pleasing. I added a salad to my meal for $3.50 and the portion was SOO small.

Friendly staff. We happened to hit the place on half price wine night. Typical neighborhood Italian food with a friendly staff.

This was one of the most disappointing restaurants I have encountered in a long time. I am often in Charleston on business and always like trying to find local restaurants but this is one I will definitely avoid next time. I was in the mood for pizza and I ordered the Hawaiian with added pepperoni. I knew I was in trouble as soon as it showed up and looks did not deceive. Whoever was in the kitchen cannot evenly distribute toppings and I still believe the toppings were all straight from the grocery store. I know the pineapple was as it was all the same size and they did not drain the liquid from the pineapple either. All the juice went to the center where it made a soggy wet dough in the middle. The crust near the outside was hard not crunchy but was more like a pizza should be. The taste was bland and unexciting. Overall a really badly made pizza. I should have orders from Papa Johns. The decor is bland and odd as was the layout. I am really surprised this place stays in business. If they can't make a pizza one would have to assume their other food can't be any good either. Go somewhere else.

Food was great. I got the stromboli (DELICIOUS), but did not receive bread until the END of my meal. Lasangna was also delicious, one of the better Italian restaurants in the area!

Want casual Italian and pizza this is it! They have it all! Awesome place and great owners. We love the pizza, Amalfi's special is the best! We always get lasagna and the chicken Parmesan. Portions are huge! Love this place!

Ok. Guess I'm too much of a foodie. But wow! Just uninspiring food, not fresh. Heck did they even use recipes or just threw together slop from the food distributors. Oh my, never understand how places like this stay in business. Ordered chicken Marsala, eggplant parmigiana. Below your average neighborhood quick fix Italian restaurant.

  • Phillip M.

Chicken parmesan and eggplant parmesan were good...not happy about the 2.00 more I had to pay for a little broccoli vs the spaghetti due to being on the no carb. Mens bathroom needed serious attention, but the service and food were very good.

Awesome food and great people. The owners are from my hometown and it was wonderful to know that one of their restaurants is here and they have kept the same consistency AND I was able to get to meet the owners and spend time with them. Thanks David and Mandy!!

Excellent choice from my kids. We ordered calamari and it was yummy. Dinner comes with either salad or soup. Kids chose crab bisque and this soup was delicious. Dinner was lasagna, chicken parmesan, and stuff shells. Everything was tasty and excellent. Price was decent also. Good choice!!

Who knew you could find a deal in Mount Pleasant! This restaurant is so yummy and so reasonably priced! For lunch I get the cheese ravioli with meat sauce it comes with a drink, the most delicious bread you've ever eaten, a salad and the entrée for under 10 bucks and that's with tax! And you can get to go. I would have given it five stars but sometimes the sauce needs some extra flavor! Other than that, for the price, it's amazing

I love this place. The food is just okay but it is a great deal and the service is great!!! For $10 you get pasta and soup or salad. The tomato bisque is the BOMB!!! I love it so much! The portions are good and the pizza is good too! I know they also do take-out. But seriously the best part is the service! I don't want heavy pastas every week but I wish I did because I want to give them my business. They remember us and truly go above and beyond. GO THERE!

We found this place through Yelp and we are so glad we did! We don't get to South Carolina as often as we would like but we will definitely make this part of the trip from now on. The food was excellent. I would recommend the eggplant Parmesan as it was just about the best I have ever had. Staff was very friendly and we even had a nice chat with one of the owners. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone in the area. I can't wait to go back!!

I really liked this place, polite, prompt service. The wine prices are NOT great - house is $6/glass and everything else is more - we didn't realize we were drinking $8/cabernet for a not huge pour. Considering you can get a glass of wine for $4/glass at D&D on the other side of Belle Hall, I thought it would be slightly better priced, and Brixx's house wine is a huge glass for $5. Anywho, I had the chicken piccata and it was completely straightforward, two good sized pieces of chicken and a decent serving of spaghetti. It was $11.50 and if I was really hungry, could have eaten it all, but I ate the chicken and left most of the spaghetti and was very content. Husband had a couple of slices of pizza and CAN IT BE? Have we found a good pizza place? Both slices were awesome. The bread and oil they serve initially is great. They have quite a packed menu and can't wait to try their additional offerings!

We went to the James Island Amalfi's which is owned by the same ppl who own the MT P one. It was great as always, we are never ever disappointed with their food, or service. I LOVE the Chicken Alfredo(soooo much flavor) with the crap bisque. Their lunch prices are a STEAL for the MT P and JI locations. Soooooo much food soooooo little money. You can not go wrong going here. Also good choices and other fav of mine is the amalfi strombli, and their White pizza. Truly though you can not really go wrong, even my kids will eat here, and that is saying a lot. Last but not least is the owners, they CARE about their customers they are always out walking the floors making sure every one is happy and Davide a true Italian and his wife are truly great people. SO either one you go to, just go and try it for your self.

Can not say enough great things about this place. Food is delicious and authentic, and the staff is very friendly and nice to chat with. It's in a strip mall, so you wouldn't think it would be that great, but it was phenomenal.

Our family has dined at Amalfi's on numerous occasions. Our first was about 6 months ago and the most surprising. Wow, a neighborhood Italian restaraunt with really good food at a very reasonable price. Very good sauces, nicely done pasta, pizza to rival the best (certainly in Charleston). The stromboli's are good but can be light on content at times. Wines are reasonably priced and appropriate to the setting. Service has mostly been attentive but not overbearing, and only once was it considered slow. it's a relatively small place with 2 levels, (I prefer downstairs), with simple decor and plenty of parking. My thanks to David for his hard work and effort and for relocating to Mt Pleasant. Most will not be dissappointed, I really like it!

Pizza

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
